Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 Launched with Performance Boost and Gaming Enhancements

Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset featuring a 7% CPU and GPU boost, support for ultra-wide 144Hz displays, advanced AI, and improved connectivity for mid-range 5G smartphones.

Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 (SM7635-AC) is the successor to the 7s Gen 3, offering a modest 7% boost in CPU and GPU performance. It retains the Kryo CPU architecture with a 1+3+4 core layout:

  • Prime Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.7 GHz (up from 2.5 GHz)
  • Three Cortex-A720 cores at 2.4 GHz
  • Four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8 GHz

The updated Adreno GPU delivers a 7% performance boost along with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Adaptive Performance Engine 3.0 and Game Super Resolution.

The chipset supports ultra-wide displays up to 1300 x 2900 pixels at a 144Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. The Spectra ISP can handle 200MP sensors and 4K video at 30fps with HDR10, HDR10+, and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG).

On the AI front, the Hexagon NPU offers better performance with support for Llama 1B and Qwen 1B models, supporting real-time translation. Connectivity improvements include sub-6 GHz 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless and aptX Adaptive audio codecs.

Qualcomm has not announced which phone will be the first to use this new chip, but it is expected to power upcoming mid-range 5G smartphones.

This chipset brings meaningful enhancements for affordable 5G smartphones, making it a compelling choice for users demanding performance and gaming capabilities without flagship prices.
